My client are seeking an innovative and creative SQL Developer to join their Data and Insight Service team. The successful candidate will design, develop, and deliver data products and services that support the delivery of business intelligence, analytics, and insights across the Council. This role is crucial for supporting services and decision-makers, contributing to the Council’s mission to serve our communities effectively.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Lead database design, development, maintenance, and management.
  • Design and implement automated data flows for analytics and business intelligence systems.
  • Convert manual data flows into automated processes, re-using existing data flows where possible.
  • Create and implement testing regimes to ensure the quality and effectiveness of data products.
  • Apply best practice development standards and innovate for efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Develop and maintain metadata repositories.
  • Collaborate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders to gather, interpret, and analyse data requirements.
  • Contribute to improvements in data management and development within the Data and Insight Service.
  • Embrace and apply agile development practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics) or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in designing, building, and testing data products and services.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server tools, including SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure Synapse and/or Data Factory is desirable.
  • Proficiency in various SQL standards (e.g., T-SQL, PL/SQL).
  • Advanced SQL skills for data transformation, extraction, and linkage.
  • Experience in data modelling and the ability to reverse-engineer data models from operational systems.
  • Ability to design and maintain metadata repositories.
  • Strong analytical skills to gather and interpret stakeholder requirements.
  • Experience in developing automated data flows and understanding the full software development life cycle.
  • Knowledge of agile development practices and a willingness to work in an agile manner.
  • A basic DBS check is required for this role.
