ENVIRONMENT:
A cutting-edge FinTech company seeks the technical expertise of a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join its JHB / CPT division, but you will be able to work remotely. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing its hybrid IT infrastructure, focusing on SQL database support, and migration to and support of Azure infrastructures. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of system administration, networking, cloud services, and SQL databases. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the reliability, security, and efficiency of our IT systems, both on-premises and in the cloud. Applicants must have a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering/Computer Science or a related study with 15 years of experience in IT Infrastructure Engineering or a related role, including substantial experience with SQL database administration and cloud.
DUTIES:
System Administration -
- Manage and maintain servers, storage systems, and networking equipment.
- Develop and implement monitoring and maintenance strategies to ensure the health and performance of IT systems.
- Ensure infrastructure security by implementing best practices and compliance with industry standards.
- Develop and maintain Disaster Recovery Plans and perform regular testing.
- Ensure backup, recovery, and replicating infrastructure is performing optimally.
- Automate routine tasks and processes to improve efficiency and reduce human error.
- Work closely with Development, Operations, and other teams to support their infrastructure and database needs and ensure seamless integration.
- Ensure infrastructure scalability and flexibility to adapt to growing business needs
- Create and maintain detailed documentation of infrastructure configurations, procedures, and processes.
SQL Database Support -
- Install, configure, and maintain SQL database servers and processes.
- Ensure high levels of performance, availability, sustainability, and security.
- Monitor and troubleshoot SQL Server performance issues.
- Optimize SQL queries and database performance.
- Perform regular database maintenance tasks such as backups, indexing, and updating statistics.
- Implement and maintain database security measures.
- Develop and implement disaster recovery plans for SQL databases.
Cloud Services -
- Deploy, manage, and optimize Azure cloud infrastructure, including cloud-based SQL databases.
- Lead and support the migration of on-premises infrastructure and applications to Azure.
- Develop migration strategies and plans, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Execute and oversee the migration process, including data migration, application rehosting, and infrastructure reconfiguration.
- Optimize Azure resources and services for performance, cost, and security.
- Evaluate and recommend new cloud services and technologies to improve business operations.
- Provide guidance and best practices for using Azure services, including virtual machines, databases, storage, and networking.
REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications -
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Analysis, or a related study.
- Certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect, or similar.
- SQL database certifications such as Azure Database Administrator Associate.
- Certification in Microsoft Technologies (MCSE \ MCDBA).
Experience/Skills -
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in IT Infrastructure Engineering or a related role, including substantial experience with SQL database administration and cloud.
