The role
Reporting to the Deputy CUO, the primary purpose of the role is to assist in underwriting a portfolio of Specialty & Bespoke business. Experience in some London market Specialist lines including but not limited to Marine, Aviation, Property D&F and Delegated Underwriting is desirable.
Key accountabilities
- Support the pre-underwriting process focusing on review of historical performance, policy wordings, and pricing adequacy based upon predefined underwriting rules and/or guidelines.
- Liaise with the placing broker throughout the underwriting cycle and policy period to ensure receipt of all necessary documents and manage any credit control issues.
- Participate in the underwriting process including a daily underwriting call, assisting in the evaluation of submissions, analysing and interpreting exposures, determining coverage and contract language as well as evaluating and prioritising preparations.
- Assist and work with actuarial, risk modelling and pricing tools.
- Attend & travel to underwriting business meetings as required.
- Leverage, build and maintain brokers relationships.
- Provide assistance to prepare and issue quotes, binders and policies on an accurate and timely basis.
- Expand existing portfolio of business by developing existing relationships and new prospective clients through visits, entertainment and conferences as appropriate.
- Monitor market developments and keep up to date regarding knowledge of the wider insurance market and global economy.
- Accountable for accuracy and completeness of data entry.
Skills & experience
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent and progress towards ACII or other relevant commercial insurance industry designations.
- Minimum of 5 years' (re)insurance industry experience in either a broking or underwriting role.
- Previous London Insurance Market experience highly desirable.
- Good knowledge of commercial insurance and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent organisational and analytical skills with an ability to prioritise and effectively manage workload while maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
- Team player with the ability to work flexibly to meet business needs as required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with High proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong interpersonal skills in order to work effectively and professionally with diverse groups.
- Must be able to self-lead effectively and work effectively both independently and in team environment.
