The Children and Social Work Act 2017 requires local authorities to consult on and publish a local offer for its care leavers. The local offer should provide information about all the services and support that is available to care leavers from the local authority including information about both their statutory entitlements as well as any discretionary support that a local authority chooses to provide. This will ensure care leavers receive consistent and comprehensive support as they transition into adulthood.As the Care Leaver Local Offer- Lead Officer, you will lead on the development and delivery of a strong Local Offer for Care Leavers including the continuing development of our existing Local Offer; researching best practice and working in consultation with staff and our care leavers to ensure we, as an organisation are fulfilling our Corporate Parenting responsibilities and our abitious for our Care Leavers. We are ambitious for all of our children in Peterborough. As part of this role, you will lead on the development of Child Friendly Peterborough by working with young people, partners, businesses and key stakeholders to ensure that Peterborough is a child and young person friendly city where children and young people are, and feel, valued.What will you be doing?You will:

  • Act as a champion for Care Leavers across Peterborough, developing and embedding an aspirational ethos within the Local Authority, with our partners, and throughout the city.
  • Identify innovative and exciting opportunities within and beyond PCC, including with communities, voluntary and private sector.
  • Work with partners and the Virtual School to find new opportunities for Care Leavers including work experience, internships and opportunities inside and outside of the council.
  • Lead the development of Child Friendly Peterborough

This role will embed an aspirational culture to further develop Peterborough’s Local Offer to our Care LeaversWho are we looking for?We are seeking a highly motivated, dynamic and creative individual who can lead and motivate others, supporting the wider directorate to be ambitious and aspirational for our Care Leavers and ensure that Peterborough is a city where all children feel valued and can thrive.

  • You have a sound understanding of issues relating to young people and the ability to engage with this group.
  • You have good knowledge of current policy, legislation and guidance in relation to Care Leavers and the ability to research and stay abreast of national best practice.
  • You have highly developed influencing and negotiation skills to operate at a strategic professional and political level, locally and nationally by engaging with external organisations to communicate our vision and negotiate potential opportunities for our Care Leavers.
  • You will have experience of successful project management, including project governance, managing stakeholders and monitoring and reporting on progress.
