Protection & Control Engineer

We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Protection & Control Engineer to join our team on a contract basis. This role is focusing on National Grid projects, requiring a deep understanding of substation design and protection and control systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working on National Grid projects and a proven track record in substation design. This position offers flexible working arrangements and is outside IR35.

Key Responsibilities:

Develop and implement protection and control schemes for primary and secondary substations, ensuring they meet National Grid standards and regulatory requirements.
Design and review protection and control systems, including relay settings, wiring diagrams, and communication systems.
Conduct fault analysis and coordination studies to ensure system reliability and protection.
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to integrate protection and control systems into overall substation designs.
Perform site visits and assessments to gather data and support design processes.
Provide technical support during the installation, testing, and commissioning phases of projects.
Prepare and review technical documentation, including design specifications, reports, and drawings.
Ensure all designs are compliant with relevant safety and quality standards.
Liaise with clients, stakeholders, and contractors to ensure clear communication and project alignment.
Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with protection and control systems.Experience:

Proven experience in protection and control engineering, specifically within National Grid projects.
Extensive experience in substation design, including hands-on design work.
Strong understanding of National Grid standards, regulations, and protection schemes.
Proficiency in using relevant design software and tools.
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
