Our client is a well-established Regional Main Contractor based in Birmingham, delivering high-quality projects in a range of sectors, with values of up to £10M. With a strong pipeline of work, particularly within Education, Retail, Leisure and Commercial, they are looking to add an experienced Design Manager to their team.

The Role

As a Design Manager, you will play a critical role in overseeing and coordinating the design process from pre-construction through to project completion. You will work closely with internal teams, external consultants, and key stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with client specifications and industry regulations.

Key Responsibilities

* Managing the design process across multiple projects, ensuring timely delivery of design information.

* Coordinating with architects, consultants, and subcontractors to resolve design issues and optimise project outcomes.

* Reviewing and managing technical drawings, specifications, and design documentation to ensure compliance with building regulations and client requirements.

* Supporting the pre-construction and bid teams by providing technical input and design solutions during tender stages.

* Ensuring value engineering opportunities are explored without compromising quality or compliance.

* Liaising with local councils, housing associations, and regulatory bodies to ensure project approval and adherence to planning requirements.

* Attending and leading design coordination meetings with project teams and stakeholders.

* Managing design risks and ensuring any design changes are effectively communicated and implemented.

Requirements

* Proven experience as a Design Manager within a main contractor environment.

* Excellent understanding of UK building regulations, planning requirements, and compliance standards.

* Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and drive collaboration between consultants and project teams.

* Experience working on projects up to £10M in value.

* Proficiency in design management software.

* Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving design challenges.

* Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to engage with clients and stakeholders effectively
