About the Role: Our client, a well-established commercial/logistics company based in Gateshead, is looking for a Finance Assistant to join their dynamic team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with a passion for finance and accounting, who thrives in a fast-paced, commercial environment. You will be working closely with the Management Accountant and reporting directly to the Head of Finance.
Key Responsibilities: - Assist with daily finance operations, including accounts payable and receivable.
- Support the preparation of monthly management accounts.
- Help with reconciliation of financial data, including bank and ledger accounts.
- Assist in processing and managing purchase orders and invoices.
- Perform routine checks on invoices, payments, and receipts.
- Provide support for financial audits and ensure adherence to financial controls.
- Help manage and maintain accurate financial records.
- Prepare ad-hoc financial reports for the management team.
- Support the Head of Finance and Management Accountant with various financial projects and analysis.
- Ensure all transactions are processed in accordance with company policies and deadlines.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes.
Skills and Experience Required: - Previous experience in a finance assistant or similar role, ideally within a commercial or logistics environment.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and finance processes.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables) and other financial software (experience with ERP systems is a plus).
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with different teams.
- A proactive and flexible approach to work.
Desirable: - AAT Part-qualified or similar finance qualification (or working towards).
- Experience using accounting systems (e.g., Sage, QuickBooks, SAP, Oracle).
