About the role

JRF’s Insight and Analysis team produces high-quality, original and actionable JRF analysis about poverty issues. We draw on a range of data sources, commissioned research and work with partners with lived experience of poverty to better understand what’s happening, why, and what can be done to solve poverty.

We are looking for someone to contribute to major elements of JRF’s programmes of analytical and policy work, including taking forward new analysis, using a range of data sources, to support JRF’s mission. The role offers the opportunity to undertake original and creative analysis to shed new light on poverty-related issues, as well as offering a professional analytical perspective across the wider organisation.

Contributing to the delivery of projects, rooted in analysis but closely connected to policy, you will build infrastructure to underpin fast, insightful, accurate analysis ensuring methodological rigour and high standards. Ensuring the production of high-quality analysis to be published externally and used by staff when speaking publicly (as well as contributing to JRF’s policy proposals and campaign asks), you will work collaboratively and creatively with communications colleagues to convey analysis accurately as well as achieving impact.

About you

You will need an ability to deliver high quality analysis, as well as being able to work effectively across the analytical team. You will be enthusiastic about exploring the possibilities of new data sources and different analytical techniques as well as a strong commitment to social policy and solving UK poverty.

With a high level of numeracy, verbal and written communications skills, you will have experience of using data analysis software (e.g. Stata, SPSS, SAS) or other programming languages (e.g. Python, R), and be a team player who can work with colleagues across departments and with external stakeholders, as required, continually developing oneself and others.

You will be interested in social policy, UK poverty and the political environment in which social and economic policy decisions are taken and show a demonstrable commitment to diversity and inclusion and its relevance to this role.

About us

The Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) is a highly regarded independent social change organisation, working to support and speed up the transition to a more equitable and just future, free from poverty, where people and planet can flourish.

Founded in 1904, a substantial endowment from the family confectionery firm means that JRF does not need to fundraise. We make grants and invest extensively in projects and partner organisations which are working to achieve the same goals. Through research, policy, collaboration and practical solutions, JRF aims to inspire action and change that will create a prosperous UK without poverty.

For us, ending poverty in the UK is a moral cause: to ensure dignity and respect for everyone, and to address exclusion and powerlessness.
