Planning Assistant

  • Location: Preston
  • Job Type: Full-time, 6-month contract.
  • Hourly Rate: £15.48 per hour, PAYE

We are looking for a Planning Assistant to join our Operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and allocating resources for major events, football matches, and emergency incidents. This role requires close coordination with Headquarters Operations, BCU’s, and external partners when necessary.

Day to Day of the Role:

  • Assist in the preparation of operational orders for planned or spontaneous events, including risk assessments.
  • Provide service in planning for football matches, major events, or debriefs of major incidents.
  • Respond positively to operational incidents related to large-scale events and demonstrations, allocating and deploying resources while understanding the needs of diverse communities.
  • Coordinate and facilitate divisional responses to mutual aid requests, providing a corporate response to incidents.
  • Liaise and negotiate with external agencies to ensure a unified approach to contingency planning and participate in joint exercises.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to delivering high standards of service with an emphasis on quality.
  • Promote and comply with obligations under the Equality Act 2010 and the organisation’s policy on health and safety.
  • Engage in personal performance improvement through the Professional Development Review (PDR) process.
  • Carry out other duties consistent with the nature, responsibilities, and grading of the post.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Attendance of the DMS Duty States Management Course or commitment to attend.
  • Experience in planning and resourcing for football matches and other major events.
  • Experience in preparing emergency plans and operational orders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Access).
  • Experience in managing computerised databases to produce management reports.
  • Effective communication skills at all levels, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently, organise and prioritise workload.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making skills in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience working to deadlines in a busy environment.
  • Representation skills at a variety of meetings.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety, Data Protection, and Equality Act Principles.
