With its innovative and smart products, they offer high efficiency and reliability to customers from highly diverse industries such as oil and gas, energy, mining and mechanical engineering, ship technology, rail, and commercial vehicles.
The client is based in Croydon and supports our customers in these diverse sectors for the UK and Ireland markets. As well as developing new build solutions with OEMs, they offer full aftermarket support to our customers by way of spare parts supply as well as repair and overhaul services at our local workshop or at the customer location via our highly skilled workshop and field service workforce.
The position being recruited for is an Electrical Support Engineer based in their Croydon site on a permanent full-time contract.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage Electrical tasks, testing protocols and issues in conjunction with the Senior Mechanical Engineer and Head of Engineering.
Conform to, own, develop and manage the VTGB Job Pack system for all electrically biased Job Packs.
Own and manage all VTGB electrically biased Concessions.
Own and manage all VTGB electrically biased Engineering Changes (ECs).
Own the creation, review, development, certification, and management of electrically biased BoMs.
Own the management of all electrically biased data, manuals, drawings, information, etc.
Determine, design/ select and reverse engineer electrical components, systems, and test equipment.
Carry out electrically biased investigations, analyses, research, and assessments to support NCRs, customer complaints, warranty claims, fault diagnosis, casualties, overhaul activities, creation of COIs, method statements, manuals, work instructions, RAMS, etc.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Travel to UK and global locations to support VTGB and VT projects as required.
Conduct condition assessments and failure analyses and produce reports for internal use (VTGB and VT Germany) and externally for customer purposes (joint investigations, warranty claims, etc.
Undertake and achieve all mandatory training requirements.
Mentor, train and advise personnel as appropriate and required to develop and increase knowledge, safety, confidence, attitudes, processes, skills, standards, etc.
Assist purchasing with supplier selection and assessment.
Support the Quality Manager as required.
Investigate, assess, analyse, calculate, research, evaluate, measure, benchmark, etc., physical assets, data, drawings, information, parts, systems, etc.
Support VTA with all-brands projects to include parts selection, parts analysis, reverse engineering, and any other specialist advice as required to achieve the project outputs and objectives.
Act as special process coordinator for wiring, responsible for validating the relevant work instructions, personnel competencies, control methods and documented information comply with the applicable standards by completing annual process audits at locations completing safety critical work.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
Experienced engineer with a minimum HNC/HND qualification (or equivalent) in an electrical/ electronic/ avionics (Electrically biased) engineering discipline.
A degree in an Electrically biased engineering discipline would be preferable.
With a minimum of 2 years design experience, it is preferable that you have at least 4 years. You will possess a good balance of general design engineering, reverse engineering and rail experience is preferred, but experience from other sectors will be considered.
A solid working knowledge and grasp of electrical fundamentals, principles and their application to products, fault diagnosis, analyses, and design.
Knowledge of rail products, electrical testing systems, fault diagnosis and root cause analysis, in-particular for: couplers, final drives, motor gear units, cooler groups, transmissions, electrical heads, contact boxes, uncoupling switches, jumper cables, sensors, gauges, motors.
Knowledge of engineering standards and regulations pertaining to rail operations such as RSSB, RISAS, RISQS, TFL/ LUL.
Knowledge of electrical assets and systems from other sectors including marine, oil and gas, industrial gearboxes/ motors/ pumps/ valves, sensors, instrumentation, condition monitoring, testing.
Familiar in the use of CAD systems NX and TeamCenter.

Knowledge of NPI and system design, requirements capture, component selection, FMECA, system integration, testing, system validation and verification.
