About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated 1:1 Community Support Worker to provide compassionate support for a student with special educational needs (SEN). You will play a vital role in the child’s learning journey, working closely with teachers and other professionals to help the student work towards their Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) goals. This rewarding position involves supporting the child in the classroom, assisting with routines and behavior management, and facilitating community-based activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Student Support: Build a positive, empowering relationship with the pupil to support self-esteem, independence, and social inclusion.
  • Behavior and Emotional Support: Uphold high standards of behavior and respond appropriately to incidents, in line with the school’s policies.
  • Teaching Support: Work alongside teachers to plan and deliver learning activities tailored to the pupil’s needs.
  • Inclusion and Engagement: Facilitate participation in learning and extracurricular activities, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Progress Monitoring: Record and report the pupil’s progress and achievements to other school staff and professionals.

Collaborative Responsibilities

  • Work closely with teachers, parents/carers, and other professionals, sharing insights on the pupil’s progress and needs.
  • Develop professional relationships with colleagues and collaborate within and beyond the school community.
  • Maintain strong communication with all stakeholders to ensure a cohesive approach to the child’s development.

Professional Development

  • Participate in training and appraisal procedures to enhance your skills and knowledge.
  • Reflect on personal practice and identify areas for improvement, with support from the school.

Safeguarding and Welfare

  • Adhere to safeguarding guidance and policies to promote a safe environment for all pupils.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Essential: GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths (Grade C or above is desirable).
  • Desirable: Experience in a school or educational setting, especially with SEN pupils, and experience planning learning activities.
  • Skills Required: Strong organizational skills, literacy, numeracy, and excellent communication. Ability to manage challenging situations calmly and effectively.
