Do you want to be a part of an innovative and supportive team, where there are great opportunities for career progression and development?
We have an exciting vacancy for an Asset Engineering Manager (Transmission Scotland) within the senior management structure of our Asset Management Department.
I help to keep people safe and warm by…
- Ensuring the gas transmission and distribution system can safely supply gas to all our customers in all conditions.
- Managing a range of regulated asset categories, predominantly our transmission pipelines, national offtakes, and pressure management apparatus.
- Ensuring compliance with legislation such as the Pipeline Safety Regulations (PSR), Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR), Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH), and Gas Safety Management Regulations (GSMR).
- Managing an investment strategy and plan that meets our GD2 outputs, while developing similar strategies for GD3. This focuses on delivering plans for various upgrade and replacement programmes across Scotland, with a strong emphasis on identifying and addressing integrity issues as they arise, alongside proactively managing early-intervention programmes.
- Managing a team of staff, developing their skills and abilities to meet departmental and wider SGN goals.
- Representing SGN internally and externally, including liaising with HSE and cross-GDN groups as required.
- Developing and updating SGN Management Procedures and Work Instructions, as well as supporting the review and updating of industry documents (e.g. IGEM and UKOPA).
- Implementing and championing new technologies to enhance the efficiency and safety of our business.
What you’ll need
Due to the nature of the work carried out by Network Asset Management, the successful candidate will be exposed to a wide range of activities from across the SGN business. As such, this is a key opportunity to be exposed to, and develop an understanding of those activities.
This position should interest internal candidates experienced in either Asset Management or Transmission Operational roles who are ready to develop their career to the next step. The candidate will work alongside the existing Asset Engineering Managers in Southern and Scotland and be additionally supported by colleagues in Distribution Asset Management and Gas Control Mgmt. teams.
With a positive and flexible approach to work you will be highly motivated with good organisational, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills. In addition, you need to be an effective communicator at all levels and be able to act on your own initiative. Candidate would also be expected to demonstrate high level of computer literacy and associated skills. It is essential that you are committed to the SGN values and play a key role in your team delivering SGN targets while operating within our safety golden rules.
While any successful candidate would normally be expected to be degree qualified, this requirement may be relaxed where candidate demonstrates exceptional abilities in terms of criteria specified above. Chartered status with an appropriate professional body would be advantageous, however candidates with a commitment to attain chartership and a demonstrated commitment to personal CPD will also be welcomed.
If you don’t have all the qualifications, we would still love to hear from you… we provide our own specialised learning and development programs, providing access to learning tools to help you acquire the skills needed to excel in our environment.
