SEMH Teaching Assistant (Autism & Social Communication Focus)

A well-established secondary school in London is looking for a SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students with autism and social communication difficulties. The successful candidate will help students who struggle with emotional regulation, peer interactions, and adapting to the school environment.

The Role

The successful candidate will:

* Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH and autism.

* Help students develop social communication skills and build positive relationships.

* Work with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral staff to implement individualised support plans.

* Use structured routines and visual supports to assist students with transitions and learning.

* Support students in managing sensory sensitivities, emotional regulation, and anxiety.

* Run interventions such as social skills workshops and self-regulation programs.

Candidate Requirements

The ideal candidate will:

* Have experience working with students with autism, social communication difficulties, or SEMH needs.

* Be patient, calm, and able to adapt support strategies to meet individual needs.

* Have knowledge of autism-friendly approaches, including PECS, Makaton, or visual schedules (desirable but not essential).

* Be confident in helping students navigate social interactions and emotional challenges.

* Have experience working in SEMH, ASD provisions, or pastoral support roles (desirable but not essential).
