Depot & Transport Manager

Salary:£38,000 plus bonus, company car/cash allowance and pension

Hours:Full Time - 40 hours per week

Location: Watford, Hertfordshire

What you'll be doing;
  • Responsible for providing management and leadership, supporting operational performance by ensuring the availability of legally compliant and safe vehicles, plant and depot in line with DVSA (Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency), HSE (Health and Safety Executive), EA (Environment Agency) requirements and company policy.
  • Ensure maintenance, performance, quality and cost effectiveness in the transport department is achieved.
  • Manage and motivate a workforce and manage a fleet of circa 60 vehicles and plant.
  • Responsible for the control of repair costs and charges via maintenance contracts and maintaining safe working procedures through training and assessment.
  • Responsible for controlling drivers' hours and ensuring they are working within legal parameters.
  • Required to look after the setting, implementing and supporting managing the workshop and depot budgets.
  • Work with all site users and manage all elements of the depot and satellite depots including the waste transfer station within it, as well as ensuring the business and the depot operates in line with health & safety and environmental legislation, industry best practice and company procedures.

What we're looking for;
  • Possess a management qualification or have previous management experience.
  • Hold a CPC qualification and CoTC (Certificate of Technical Competence - internal training can be offered).
  • IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety & Health) Managing Safely or NEBOSH (National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health) General Certificate.
  • Previous experience within project planning and management experience, multi-site facilities/depot management and general experience of working in operational management (blue collar), e.g. Logistics and waste.
  • Experience of managing own P&L (Profit and Loss)
  • Good communication skills to a variety of audiences and possess highly developed IT skills, e.g. Microsoft Office, Software Systems.
  • Ability to analyse complex written and numerical reports, e.g. tonnage, legislation, and finance.
  • Previous experience supervising people, e.g. as a charge hand or foreman and working within a plant and various motor engines.
