The Company

* This company are an established and renowned specialist civils subcontractor. They have worked on some major projects across the London skyline and have a current turnover of £160m and take on schemes up to £50m.

The Role

* Senior Rebar Engineer (Reinforcement coordinator) needs to have several key skills and experience in dealing with reinforcement. Key skills include time management, coping well under pressure and excellent written & verbal communication skills.

* Experience with reinforcement is a must as in this role requires a high level of knowledge in reinforcement drawings, detailing and constructability.

Coordination of Reinforcement Detailers

* As part of this role, you are required to coordinate reinforcement intents received from the structural consultants and detailed into drawings by ML reinforcement detailers. This requires constant monitoring of the project IRS (information required schedule) and ensuring the information required for detailing elements are available, and if not flagging them up via RFI's in a timely manner and vice versa ensuring ML detailers are achieving their output targets to guarantee no delays are caused due to reinforcement drawings not being available or status A when required.

Ensuring optimal constructability

* Constructability is a substantial factor to be considered when detailing reinforcement as it can save immense amount of time on the project. To detail the reinforcement to be as constructable as possible a reinforcement coordinator must be in constant contact with the team around him such as project manager, rebar fixing foreman, construction manager and project engineers to discuss the methodology behind each build to ensure the reinforcement detailing follows suit.

Commercial feasibility

* A reinforcement coordinator has an obligation to assure that the reinforcement being detailed for the project is the most commercially viable option. As an example, case studies being carried out to discover whether coupled connections are a better choice or spliced connections.

Calling off reinforcement

A big part of a reinforcement coordinators role is to call off reinforcement, on this project there is circa Ton of rebar to called off and at its peak Ton will be required per week. To carry this task out the below points are necessary.

* Ability split schedules

* Track call off's and compare between designed tonnage and actual ordered

* Record call off's

* Understanding of construction programme

* Planning ahead (4/6 weeks)

* Liaising with suppliers
