The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lead Civil Engineer to join a well-established Consulting Structures Team. With multiple design hubs and office locations, the company offers a strong regional presence and opportunities for career progression within major roads, bridges and transportation projects.

The Structures Team plays a crucial role in designing and delivering large-scale civil engineering and infrastructure projects. The company is involved in a diverse portfolio of roads, bridges, and transportation design projects, collaborating with public and private sector clients.

This role provides engineers with the chance to contribute to significant and complex projects that drive innovation and sustainability in infrastructure development.

The Role

As a Lead Civil Engineer, you will play a key role within the Design Team, working closely with key stakeholders. You will be responsible for leading road, bridges and transportation projects, providing technical guidance, and mentoring junior engineers while ensuring high-quality and cost-effective solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

* Lead a team to deliver technically sound engineering solutions that comply with relevant standards and client requirements.

* Prepare and review designs, calculations, drawings, and documentation, ensuring they meet quality, cost, and program objectives.

* Oversee and mentor junior team members, ensuring their work meets technical and safety standards.

* Take ownership of the commercial success of projects, including budget control and cost management.

* Liaise with clients and suppliers, attending progress meetings, addressing queries, and ensuring project alignment.

* Contribute to bid preparation and work-winning activities.

* Promote and enforce health and safety best practices within the team.

What You'll Bring:

* Strong technical expertise and experience in civil engineering, ideally in a Senior Engineer or similar role.

* Ability to produce technically sound engineering solutions independently while supervising junior engineers.

* Experience managing health, safety, and welfare in line with industry regulations (e.g., CDM Regulations, Integrated Management Systems).

* Proven ability to act as a main engineering contact on projects, including roles such as Contractor's Responsible Engineer (CRE) where applicable.

* In-depth understanding of the design and specification process, with the ability to check and review work to a high standard.

* Proficiency in relevant engineering software and analytical tools, with the ability to validate and check designs.

* Strong knowledge of CDM regulations and risk management, ensuring hazards and risks are effectively communicated and mitigated.

* Capable of acting as Principal Designer on suitable projects.

* Effective leadership and people management skills, including the ability to oversee a technical team.

* Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent professional accreditation) is highly desirable and may be essential for certain contracts.
