We are seeking a motivated and experience Scrum Master, with a strong background in software development.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone passionate about Agile Methodologies, with the ability to support the teams using your Scrum Master experience, while utilising your technical expertise, to enhance the development process.
Responsibilities:
As a Scrum Master at Canopius, you will be primarily a servant-leader who facilitates the Scrum process, working closely with the Technology teams and the business stakeholders.
The ideal candidate should have experience in developing financial applications and would be encouraged to actively participate in the development process, where possible, alongside their Scrum Master activities.
Scrum Master activities would typically include the following:
- Guiding and coaching the Scrum Team on the best use of Agile practice and principles to deliver high quality products and services to our customers.
- Coaching team to a high performing level by recognising areas of strength and improvement and employing appropriate training and development techniques.
- Create a collaborative environment, which promotes teamwork, communication, and collaboration, encouraging a positive team culture.
- Ensuring that iterative delivery methodologies are understood, and the team adheres to Scrum theory, practice, and guidelines.
- Guiding Scrum teams in self-organisation, encouraging cross-functionality, domain knowledge and communicating effectively, both within the Scrum Team, and externally outside the team.
- Working with Scrum Teams, as well as internal and external stakeholders, to influence and drive decision making and support organisational project or product teams.
- Resolving team impediments with other Scrum Masters to increase the effectiveness of the application of Scrum in the organisation.
- Working with Agile coaches and other Scrum Masters to grow within the role and supporting others.
- Contributing to the advancement and improvement of Agile practices within the organisation.
- Facilitating and supporting all scrum events: Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, Sprint Retrospective, Backlog Refinements.
- Responsible for working with stakeholders, creating and managing the product backlogs, ensuring a constant pipeline of work for the development team.
- Providing coaching and mentorship to all stakeholders in appropriate behaviours and practice, enabling the most efficient delivery of outcomes and encouraging self-management and self-organisation.
- Run product demonstrations and lead workshops to assist the business with their decision making and direction of product.
- Create and produce metrics/KPIs to help with the monitoring, tracking and management of the development process, and reporting team performance to leadership.
- Communicating solutions to internal and external stakeholders in a digestible format.
- Applying development knowledge to support application development team.
Skills:
Proven experience as a Scrum Master, including:
- Sound communication, facilitation, negotiation, coaching and mentoring skills.
- Promoting Agile values and principles.
- Knowledge of Agile frameworks or methodology and understanding of SDLC.
- Adept at techniques such as refinement, story splitting, estimation, velocity, continuous improvement through retrospectives.
- Planning and problem solving with product management and delivery teams.
- Strong hands-on experience in software development, with proficiency in one or more of the following technologies: -
- React, Blazor, MVC, JavaScript, HTML5, and CSS,
- T-SQL and Microsoft SQL Server.
- Relevant certification in Agile (e.g., Scrum Alliance, scrum.org, PMI Agile Certified Practitioner).
- Understanding of continuous integration, testing and a solid appreciation of the value of metrics and incremental delivery.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure DevOps.
- Understanding of the commercial P&C, Lloyd's and/or US insurance markets.

- Good communication skills and the ability to speak to a variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders at different levels of seniority from a wide range of backgrounds.
- The ability to lead team members on efficient ways of working.
- Strength of character to challenge inefficiencies within the business and remove impediments for delivery.
