Civil Engineering - Year in Industry
12 Months Fixed Term Contract
Location– Selby
Salary - £23,400
Closing date – 14th March 2025
Who we are:
We’re not just talking about making a difference, we’re making it happen. We generate dispatchable, renewable power and create stable energy in an uncertain world. Building on our proud heritage, we have ambition to become the global leader in sustainable biomass and carbon removals.
You’ll be joining our teams of practical doers, future thinkers, and business champions. We’re enabling a zero carbon, lower cost energy future for all, and working hard to decarbonise the planet for generations to come.
About the role:
We’re one of the largest energy generators in the UK, with our main site in North Yorkshire covering 13 square miles. That means there are a lot of complex and interesting structures to work on, not to mention some of the new ones in the pipeline. You’ll be supporting the activities of the Civil/Structural Engineering Department, working closely with the team’s Lead Structural Engineer. You’ll be getting stuck in on a diverse portfolio of projects across Drax power station and supporting a nationally significant asset, while learning invaluable skills for your future career at the same time.
As a Year in industry student, you can expect to get involved in projects such as road repairs, fibre reinforced concrete slabs, steelwork strengthening, and concrete repairs, or management of smaller repairs and structural defects to maintain the structural assets.
We could easily tell you more about what a fantastic opportunity this is, but here’s what one of our recent our placement students have said about their experience:
“Being at Drax has given me a much more practical experience of civil engineering. Being able to spend time on-site and in the office with experienced & expert engineers as well as cutting-edge technology has helped me broaden my skills and improve my academic knowledge. Perhaps more usefully it has given me many other skills outside of civil engineering, such as communication, team working & organisation. Being in such a friendly and supportive team has given me the opportunity and confidence to undertake new tasks and challenges. Overall, it has been a really enjoyable experience.”
