A little bit about the opportunity…

The Lobster Smack is a classic British pub with a rich history, even making an appearance in Charles Dickens’ novel “Great Expectations.”

This charming food led pub features two floors and two bars, with the first floor used primarily for private functions and events. It boasts a large garden with over 100 seated covers and a fully equipped outside bar, making it a popular spot during the warmer summer months.

Our ideal General Manager will have a minimum of 2 years’ experience running a food led business coupled with a strong local’s wet trade. Although the pub benefits from walking groups, dog walkers and visitors during the summer months, we really want our new General Manager to have the skills to engage with the residents of Canvey Island – ensuring The Lobster Smack remains their local and always has a reason to visit, all year round!

You’ll have a natural flair for delivering top notch service and hospitality by the bucket load! You will recognise that the day job, such as compliance and due diligence will be a given and always deliver without exception.

Experience with functions / event sales would be a huge benefit too, as there is a huge opportunity to drive this area of the business further.

Finally, as a General Manager, you must exhibit great leadership skills and the ability to build a high-performing team to control, develop, and improve all aspects of the business, including sales, P&L, personnel, standards, legal compliance, service, and brand integrity.
